Blogger Guidelines

Click on the assigned heading (on right). Whether you are adding your own reflections or commenting on a classmate's ideas, consider the following:

Make your reflections and/or comment worth reading.
Blogging is about reading, thinking, and responding.

Think about the tone of your comment:
  • Be polite, friendly, and encouraging.
  • Have some humor, but be careful with sarcasm.
  • If you disagree, don’t be rude about it; give constructive (helpful) feedback.

Think about the content of your comment:

  • Keep your comment on topic and make sense. Say something about the original post.
  • Don’t say random stuff or get really silly.
  • Be more formal than you would in real life, but not stuffy.
  • Avoid texting shortcuts like u for you and l8r for later, and only use one emoticon if you need to.
  • Sometimes add a question at the end to keep the conversation going.

Think about conventions of your comment:

  • Try to fix your spelling mistakes: use Google Docs for drafting your  comments.
  • Use capitals in the right places: people’s names, places, the beginning of a sentence, and on “I” —no evil i’s. All capitals is like yelling.
  • Punctuate properly: period at the end of a sentence, space after a period, comma, or end bracket. One “!” will do: you don’t need a string of exclamation marks.
  • Remember, you are putting your best self forward, so polish your comments.

  1. Autonomous Cars
    By:Matthew Boor

Driverless vehicles are being tested all around the world, in LA, China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and even in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. These automotive wonders are designed to to take people where they need to go without the need for a driver. I think that these shuttles are great, they have a large variety of safety features like screens that are connected to sensors and say stop when you get to close. These shuttles are shaping the future and have gotten the world one step closer to the autonomous car.

The fully Autonomous car is a little farther down the road, but these shuttles are helping us to see how we react to them and what people do, and don't like. A pioneer and specialist in the autonomous vehicle market, NAVYA assists cities and private sites around the world in improving their transport offer with its autonomous, driverless and electric solutions. At the cutting edge of technology, NAVYA revolutionizes trips by offering fluid mobility solutions. Other car companies are chipping in aswell, General Motors invested 500$ million dollars in U.S. ride-hailing startup Lyft and revealed collaboration plans to build self-driving cars.“We see the future of personal mobility as connected, seamless, and autonomous,” said GM president Dan Ammann, at the time. “With GM and Lyft working together, we believe we can successfully implement this vision more rapidly.” The autonomous shuttle idea is spreading, in LA, shuttle buses become the new Las Vegas wedding venue. These shuttle are already making an impact, the American Automobile Association (AAA) Nevada is exploring whether or not autonomous vehicles and self-driving shuttles could become Las Vegas' new answer to drive-thru weddings, with the launch of a competition for would-be bride and grooms. This is huge, because now even more people are seeing the shuttles and even more are getting to experience them, this is a big step to the autonomous car.

As you can see, the autonomous car is now a reality. With state-of-the-art technology, these amazing vehicles are transporting people where they need to go without the need for a driver. Which means no bulky steering wheel, no pedals, and no shift sticks. Just room for you and your passengers. So if you get to see one even ride in one, think, this is the future of the automobile, and im apart of it.

  2. Sparrow, by Sarah Moon is about a 14 year old girl who has always felt different and distant. Sparrow Cooke has had trouble making friends ever since kindergarten. When Sparrow needs to get away from reality, she flies. She feels as though she can fly with the birds and feels welcome. One day she’s sitting on her school rooftop, then she’s sitting in a hospital bed. She tries to tell them otherwise, but everyone believes she jumped. Sparrow feels alone, until she hears the Pixies, a rock band that inspires her. Could this be the solution to her problems or could it help her express her emotions?
Theme: Talking about your feelings can be helpful. This theme can be a helpful reminder during your lifetime to talk to people about your feelings so that you are less stressed and so that people will understand you better. It could help readers to understand that someone else is probably going through what your going through.
I would recommend this book for older kids who like drama or realistic fiction with a little bit of sadness. If you ever feel different or alone this book could be a helpful inspiration.
